The Certificate in Criminology is designed for Sociology majors who wish to pursue careers in local law enforcement. It is a way of tailoring one's studies in Sociology to Criminology specific topics.

Students must be majoring in Sociology to receive a Certificate in Criminology. Students take six courses for the certificate and those classes may double count for the major. Therefore, students wishing to get the certificate can do so within the 47 hours required for the major in Sociology.

Students majoring in another Social and Behavioral Science department and who would like to double major in Sociology with the Certificate in Criminology should see the advisor in Sociology for more information. Upon graduation the Certificate in Criminology is sent to the student along with her or his diploma. It cannot be conferred prior to a student's graduation but a student can return after his or her graduation to finish any remaining Criminology requirements.
