Research Overview
Taken as a whole, my work is located within the broad area of macro-level social change, and is informed by contemporary sociologists such as C.W. Mills, Charles Tilly, John Meyer, William Domhoff, and Peter Evans. It is research aimed at uncovering the basis of long-term social change and social order, paying a great deal of attention to relations of power and inequality. To be more specific, my work focuses on the long-term processes and structures of the world economy, frequently referred to as "globalization", and their impacts on relationships among countries, economic development, income inequality, social welfare, urbanization, and the environment. This research is quantitative and comparative, international in scope, and cross-national in design.
