RESEARCH INTERESTS
The central theme of Dr. Cai’s research interests lies in the macro processes of social change and the interplay of social forces and demographic factors. His empirical research thus far has mostly focused on the state development in China, ranging from its early historic dynasties to the recent changes under communism. He is currently working on a project to explore the relationship between state policy and low fertility in anticipation of China’s transition away from its one child policy.
