EDUCATION


RESEARCH INTERESTS

Dr. Hossain joined the faculty in 1988. He teaches courses in criminology, juvenile delinquency, deviant behavior, social problems, and law enforcement and administration of justice. In addition to teaching at the University of Utah, he has also taught for Weber State University, Westminster College, and University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Dr. Hossain's research interests are specific to the field of criminology and criminal justice. His research activities include prediction of recidivism, geographical (inter-region/inter-city) distribution of crimes, and socioeconomic correlates of crime and delinquency. In criminal justice, his research interests are focused on offender programming, and process and outcome evaluations of offender programs.

Dr. Hossain is employed full-time with the Utah Department of Corrections as a Management Consultant. He also consults with the National Institute of Corrections, an agency under the U.S. Department of Justice, on issues related to program evaluation and accountability.
