Recreational
Set in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, the U enjoys one of the
nations most beautiful campus settings. It is well known for its spectacular
outdoor environment and recreational opportunities. World class ski resorts
- Alta, Snowbird, Deer Valley, Park City, Brighton, Solitude, and The
Canyons are located within 30 minutes from the University. The Wasatch
Mountains are home to many fresh water streams, lakes and reservoirs,
ideal for fishing, waterskiing, and windsurfing. Other popular and accessible
activities include backpacking, hiking, camping, hunting, climbing, mountain
biking, river running, and horseback riding.

- The Utah Museum of
Fine Arts houses collections ranging from Greek Antiques to traditional
arts of Oceania and Africa to Andy Worhol.
- The Utah Museum of
Natural History collections in the field of earth sciences, biology,
and anthropology rank among the largest and most comprehsive in the
Western United States.
- Pioneer Theatre Company,
a fully professional theatre in residence at the University of Utah,
produces a seven-play season running from September through May, including
a mixture of classics, large-scale musicals and contemporary dramas
and comedies.
- Kingsbury Hall is a gathering place and center for cultural and intellectual enrichment. Kingsbury Hall, a historic 1900 seat auditorium was originally built in 1930. Since Kingsbury Hall's $14 million renovation and grand reopening in March 1996, over 400,000 audience members have been treated to the finest in theater, Broadway musicals, ballet, film, modern dance, conferences, rock concerts, classical music, jazz, lectures, and student events.
2002 Olympic Winter Games
The University of Utah hosted the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for
the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, along with the Opening Ceremony of the
Paralympic Winter Games, at the Rice-Eccles
Olympic Stadium.
